Changing Your Perspective from Negative to Positive

I think at some point in our lives we fall down the rabbit hole of speaking or thinking negatively about ourselves or about situations around us, especially in the current world situation.

Therefore, I thought it would be important to discuss with you ways in which you can beat a negative mindset and develop into a more positive one with these 6 simple tips.

Tip 1 - Fixed to Growth Mindset -

I did a blog post a little while back where I discussed the difference between a fixed and growth mindset and how to develop from a fixed to a growth mindset.

Ultimately, if you remain in a fixed mindset then you are going to look at situations and perhaps yourself in a negative way. You are likely to see feedback as criticism and view failure as the person that you are and not be willing to change it. So if you limit your mind to everything just being the way it is then you are likely to view things more negatively.

Whereas, by having a growth mindset you are more open and willing to change. You embrace challenges, welcome feedback and find other people's successes inspiring rather than threatening.

Personally, I think having a growth mindset is a really powerful and positive asset to have to live a more positive life. So if you want to know how to change from a fixed to a growth mindset in more detail, click the link here.

Tip 2 - Change Your Inner Voice -

If you're talking negatively about yourself all the time then you're not going to be in the right frame of mind to help build other people up and look at how others interact with you as positive. You are just going to be constantly questioning why someone is being nice to you or why they said something to you.

So talk positively about yourself and build yourself up to enable you to look and interact with other people more positively. One way in which you can do this is by using affirmations which will be discussed in a blog post on 23rd January.

Tip 3 - Don't Allow Negativity In -

Surround yourself with positive people but also know that the majority of people have your best interests at heart. So rather than looking at a situation negatively as someone is dampening your amazing idea. View it as they are looking out for you and perhaps guiding you through a different path to get to where you need to be.

Tip 4 - Focus on What Matters -

The human brain can only hold on to a certain amount of memories / information at one time therefore focus on the positives and the amazing things that happened in your day rather than the negatives. To help you do this, create yourself a journal and write down all the things that made you happy throughout your day so you can look back on these when a negative thought pops into your mind

Tip 5 - Help Others -

You as well as the individual you are helping will benefit from your help. Why not try volunteering at a local charity or getting your neighbours groceries for the week. Small acts of kindness and being helpful will make you feel happy as well as them but it will also make you compare others situations against your own and realise that your situation could always be worse which in turn will make you realise how lucky you are.

Tip 6 - Challenge Yourself -

Change is formed by action, not by words therefore take the above tips on board and start changing your mindset. It will be a lengthy process but the brain can change it's thought pattern with hard work and consistency. Live a more positive life and embrace everything that life throws at you.

I hope the above tips have provided you with the stepping stones for a more positive mindset. To help your journey, I have put together a downloadable template which can help you switch your negative thoughts into more positive ones. You can download the template here.
