As you've probably guessed already, I like to talk about goals and what better way than to discuss developing a goal mindset in January when new goals are set and we are ready to achieve.
In today's post, I give you 9 ways in which you can develop your goal mindset so you're ready to achieve your dreams!
1) Resilience
One way to achieve a goal mindset is to carry on even when the going gets tough. We all have bad days and days where we don't want to do much but having that resilience and knowing that you can do it is vital. Of course, if you have set yourself a goal and you are beginning to feel unwell from it then perhaps stop but ultimately just know that you can smash your goals and achieve them!
2) Reward Yourself
As mentioned before, the brain loves positive reinforcement therefore treat yourself once you have achieve the goal you have set yourself. You can also set yourself smaller milestones throughout your goal journey which you could set small rewards for. Having smaller rewards throughout your journey and an overarching reward will keep motivation high.
3) Manageable Chunks
When setting a goal, I like to work backwards from the goal I want to achieve so I know the stepping stones required to get to where I want to be. Therefore, break down your goal into manageable chunks as it will help your overall goal feel less daunting.
4) Make Sure Goals Are Precise and Link to Your Values
There is little point setting yourself a goal that doesn't align with your values and that isn't specific. This is because you won't know how to achieve the goal if you have no specific detail on what it is you're trying to achieve. You will also feel less motivated should you set yourself a goal that doesn't interest you fully or link to your values.
Therefore, make your goal specific and make sure it links to your values
5) Embrace Discipline
Some days you just need to be disciplined with yourself and understand that you want to get somewhere and the only way you can get there efficiently is by being disciplined with yourself.
6) Make a Clear and Concise Plan
Give yourself direction and a clear guidance as to how you're going to achieve your goal. By following a plan, you are more likely to stay on track and less likely to fall off the bandwagon.
7) Reinforce Motivation
Look back at your goal journey so far and use this as a motivation point for when you're feeling a bit low. We're not going to feel motivated all the time so making sure you have a go to for when you need some extra motivation such as: looking back on your journey or referring to a vision board is so useful and will lift your spirits.
8) Track Progress
If you're a regular reader of mine then you will know that I just love to track progress. For me, tracking my progress is a chance for me to understand what went well and what I could have done better. So track your journey in a journal, diary, a habit tracker - however you feel suits you best and enjoy tracking!
9) Work Towards Your Vision
I would strongly advise making a vision board that has a clear outline of the goals you're aiming for. By having a vision board to refer back to it will make you motivated and excited to achieve your dreams!
So now you have some of the tools to achieve your goals. The last thing to do is to stop thinking about your goals and to take action as you won't achieve them by not doing anything. To help you take action, why not download a weekly goal tracker here so you can monitor your progress.
